If I don't have any employees do I need a Workers' Compensation policy?
You are only required to obtain a Workers' Compensation insurance policy if you have one or more part-time or full-time employees (other than your spouse if you are married). Roofing contractors, Class C-39, are an exception. Even roofers without employees must carry Workers' Compensation. All actively licensed contractors who are not required to carry Workers' Compensation must file an 'Exemption from Workers' Compensation” form with the CSLB  This and other forms are available from the CSLB's Web site: www.cslb.ca.gov.
